a great night it was.

i forgot to organise a door bitch so took over the duties myself. it was a good place to sit & watch the bands as well as personally greet each arrival. i thought i had some helpers but that didn’t seem to eventuate {hi jack usage and adrienne}. it was a truly excellent mix of people all of them supportive of the night. and the bar. had the usual MELVOFEST cd on sale and suprisingly sold a few. ditto the ROO SHOOTER cd.

yeah. so this has all gotten a little longwinded. this is last bit i’ll write coz i can’t be bothered writing any more. here’s the lowdown on the rock...

HORSE LOVER FAT blew my freakin’ mind. three of the most talented music types in this town combining forces to play exactly the twisted-piss-on-an-emo-kid-pop you’d expect them to play. nigel HFTD, SPINDICKLE & dr. jones {i still don’t know why he’s called that}. & fukk nigel can play bass. never seen that before. their set ended with an awesome version of TOM WAITS’ big black mariah. HLF reckon they’ll avoid playing shows as much as possible. we’re the ones who’ll be missing out.

a few persons wondered why i asked ANTONY of the FUTURE to play {including antony hisself}. i’d never seen them. never heard them {aside from the track on the cd which, i was told, wasn’t a true reflection of the band}. they’re all nice dudes who i’ve enjoyed watching play over the years in a variety of bands {as well as sharing the odd brew with}. i guess they’re another supa groop {of sorts}. reports from my a&r people kept mentioning the S*R*K*S as a reference point but i was thinking more SUPERCHUNK/BUFFALO TOM as they played. i liked them. alot.

i’d never seen SPINDICKLE play live before {not solo anyway} but liked his music. several days before MELVOFEST i’d heard many a SPINDICKLE tune on the radio & thought they all ruled. he launched his album pieces of carrot on the night {go and buy it} but, shit, his voice is amazing. he can hold a note with out wavering, sounds like he should be a big fat ol’ dude {he’s the exact opposite} & plays some fantastic dark pop songs while singing, strumming & drumming all at once. sometime in the next few weeks APG will release a SPINDICKLE live at MELVOFEST 06 cd-r to be followed sometime in the next few months by a new studio album.

i love SWEET RAXXX. sure, i honestly say i’m not a fan of their recorded stuff {aside from the track on the MELVOFEST cd. truly one of the greatest things ever} but the hotties can put on a show {and draw a crowd}. cookie in her nurses outfit. nicky botox in his netball skirt {and g-string...}. rockin’ electro beats with lyrics that’d make yo momma faint. it’s easy to see why the kids {& old men} flock to see them. SR are a true performance spectacle puttin’ it all in. and so much more. that room was a sweatin’.

then ROO SHOOTER took to the stage for the last time ever {?}. it was one {if not the} best {last ever} show we’ve ever played. sure we half cleared the room. sure jarren & i gushed blood from our fingers. sure i completely forgot how one of the songs went. sure i followed the majority’s vote & didn’t tune my guitar {i soon swayed the way of the minority}. it was just pure drunken energy propelling us into oblivion, all engines firing. we played like it was the last time ever. oh, it was. before the show mr. tony grudge mysteriously appeared & asked if we’d play GOD’s my pal. we’d discussed it during the week & decided that we’d best let it be. but we ended the set with not only the song but with tony grudge doing vocals. it shredded, dude. i went a lil’ nutso & i think my guitar was propelled into the air only to come crashing to the ground. hopefully it’ll still work. so yeah...goodbye ROO SHOOTER.

people seemed to like it coz we shifted muchos units at the end. maybe we should keep going...

it was a great one. biggest MELVOFEST crowd ever. awesome bands. awesome people. thanks to everyone involved. rachel. jarren. zac & naomi. kynan. the bands. & everyone who bothered to come along. roll on MELVOFEST 07.

the next day i went to rachel’s staff christmas party {!!??!!}. i threw an egg at her bosses head {he wasn’t too happy} & drank an assortment of cocktails made by a sixteen year old who told me he was into old skool music ‘like pearl jam’. we had fun.

so yeah...

set this up a while ago, but ain't gotten off my arse to write anything.

maybe i should...
